Awning installation, avoiding brackets?

Hi,
today I received a quote from an awnings installer.
He said that in my case i would need side brackets because almost certainly the top area of the kitchen extension under the gutter contains steel and we can't add holes that would weaken the structure.
Do you think that it's true?

Thanks.

Yes, there is some steel inside - either RSJ of a steel lintel. The rest is guessing. Possibly, either is behind a row of bricks, but these bricks are weak. I don't think that few holes will weaken RSJ, but it can be tricky to fix to it. Obviously, installers insist on the easiest (for them) option.
