Scam listings on Facebook

Options
I was just browsing FB Marketplace, and there are loads of obvious scam listings, with items priced at £78. Is that some magic number that simply works?

Here's one:

The 'seller' has been a FB member for many years, but based in the USA. Do accounts just get hacked and taken over?

I reported a similar £78 listing, but it's still there on FB.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Obvious scam, yes they just hack accounts and use them to scam or spam until the profile owner manages to recover their account which some don't manage to or even know about if they are not frequent fb users

And in many cases, it proves impossible for the owner either to recover the account or even report it. One of my friends was hacked in January, and since then the scammer has been using her account to sell non-existent concert tickets to her friends and acquaintances. She has done all humanly possible to put a stop to this, but without success.

Let's hope that the Online Safety Bill will oblige Facebook to respond to reports of this kind of activity.

Won't banks do a chargeback when the goods don't arrive?

They won't be using a method that allows chargebacks - they will send a bank transfer or do paypal friends and family. If they are aware of online safety and ask about a G and S paypal payment they will either be ignored or be spun a line about having their paypal account restricted due to someone trying to scam them, or just moving house or whatever. There are sufficient number of people online who will be blinded by a bargain and believe they know what they are doing and will send a bank transfer.

    It's unlikely to come close.
I have a business account on Facebook. They're offering new verification and different types of accounts. One of the 'perks' of a monthly payment is to be able to recover your account if it gets hacked! That should be base level of any account.
