My ex remarried an Albanian in Albania - is it recognised here and how do i prove he did?

Options
My ex married his new partner last year in Albania. Hes a UK citizen, she is Albanian.
Assuming they followed all the legal requirements under Albanian law, how would I go about proving that he is remarried? We had not finalised the division of our marital home and now im sure he will have fell into 'the remarriage trap' and he may not be entitled to certain things. But because it wasnt a UK wedding how would I prove he remarried if he doesnt disclose it?

Check out if Albania has a birth marriage and death register and see if you can find his registered marriage.

Thanks for your reply. Ive been trying but it doesnt seem like its public information. They have a website for registrations but i think you can only get the info if youre trying to obtain a copy of your own certificate?

Try a free trial of an ancestry website if you can find one that contains Albanian records. I use my heritage, they have many countries birth marriage and death records.
If you do a free trial you must remember to cancel it before they start charging you after the trial period is up.

You say your "Ex" - I assume you mean ex-husband . Therefore are you saying that the Decree Absolute has not been granted and he seems to have committed bigamy?

Presumably the divorce was not absolute but the remarriage affects the financial settlement?

Have you tried the basics like Facebook? It isn't always a guy's thing but if your ex has siblings or cousins they may have posted photos of the wedding, family meet ups etc?
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing

Online wedding celebration photos wouldn’t confirm that it is a legal wedding recognised in the UK. It could just have been a religious ceremony and party.

In some cases, foreign religious marriages are recognised in the uk. I can’t say for Albanian ones.

I don’t suppose that ex-hubby would lie, once the op sends him copies of his wedding photos?

The OP should really be asking some Albanian people about this. I noticed that there’s a very active Facebook group for Albanian people in the UK, and that might be a good place to ask?

No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Marriages that take place in other countries are automatically recognised as valid in the UK as long as they were conducted fully under the laws of that country, and that they wouldn't be impossible to allow here ( e.g if the bride was only 14 etc.)
