Sale of property and E.On

Options
Good morning.
I'm not sure if I should post on this forum but it is related to a recent sale.
I've recently sold a property as the executor of my dearest friend, so on behalf of the previous owner who passed away. I wrote to E.On Next the other day (they already know that B. passed away last year) letting them know that the property changed hands. Their customer service asked me to provide them with the name of the new owners. I've never met the new owners since the house was sold through an estate agent.

Am I allowed to provide E.On Next with the new owners' names?
Something at the back of my head tells me that I shouldn't, but I could be wrong.

No problem at all. They'll find out eventually anyway.

I trust you took, and provided, meter reads for EoN to produce the final account to the Estate.

EoN don't need you to provide a name -- after all the new Owner may not be the Occupier who becomes responsible for the energy use there.

As others suggest, as a courtesy, you could give Eon the buyer's name. Or you could decide not to.

Eon are asking because, if the new occupant forgets/fails to contact Eon, having the name of the buyer would be a starting point for Eon to contact the occupant.

When we sold my dads house, we just confirmed the date of sale with the energy supplier (British Gas) and they sorted it. I didn't even know the name of the new owners. There's no harm against you providing a name as a private citizen.

    There is a smart meter.
