Good morning 😊
First of August, it is.
It has been a slow start to the day. I have been looking at recipes for chickpea protein bars. We are going on a hike tomorrow, so I want to make something to take with us. A lot of the recipes have sugar, or peanut butter, which I don’t want to add, so it calls for some experimentation in the kitchen. I will go and play around with ingredients in a bit.
Dinner will be either beef stroganoff, or mushroom stroganoff, served with wild rice.
@TravellingAbuela I am adopting the Friday Tidy. I will go around the kitchen, since I’m going to be in there for most of the morning.I have an eye appointment to attend this afternoon, but it’s not until three o’clock. There is glaucoma in the family, and my eyes are showing signs of pigment dispersion, but it’s a six month check up, so I’m hopeful there’s been no change since January.
Currently, I am enjoying a salted caramel Beanies coffee. Very nice it is, too.
Hope you all have a good day 😊15 -
Morning everyone
Thank you all for the good wishes for little one, she went home yesterday afternoon and is coming back later for the weekend! DD is needing her B12 injection so is feeling really tired so of course granny said yes! My jobs can wait till next week ...I'd rather be playing with little one. She is getting to be an expert at Uno, but definitely doesn't have a poker face as I can tell what colour cards she has by her dramatic reactions!
Eldest DD is now in Osaka in Japan...so I had 25 photos when I woke up...she has been to a town where she thought there was a deer park, turns out the who town is a deer park....loads of them wandering about.
We have smallest cat to take up to the vets for her 2nd booster jab this morning then a crafty thing at the library this afternoon. I'll go down to mam and dads to do their banking as soon as I'm dressed.
Taff thanks for asking...basically doctor was just there's nothing I can do it's all long covid, the blood tests all came back fine. She is going to refer me back to the physio though and said I might need an operation on my knee.
Right best get moving. I hope you all have a good day x14 -
Morning all, thanks @Gers for starting us off on a new month. The weather was fine yesterday, unlike today - it's already drizzling and apparently will be so all day.
I was planning on a trip to the shops but have decided to postpone that until tomorrow - there's nothing urgent needed anyway.
Stage 2 of the Grand Clear Out went well yesterday, thanks for asking @-taff. Lots of stuff binned, items destined for the CS are stacked out of the way under the stairs (for now) and what I'm keeping is back in the cupboard. Still to do - Stage 3: sort through the contents of two tool boxes and Stage 4: get the donations to the CS, the latter being dependent on help from DS in the form of transport and muscle power.
Today it's the usual Friday admin including updating the annual budget spreadsheet (yet again), one wash load to do, a freezer tidy up and a quick dust/vac through downstairs. Fish tea tonight.
@mehefin - My very best wishes to you today on the Last of the Firsts. I hope you enjoy your evening with good friends and lovely memories.
Right, best get on. Have a good day all and take care. As always, virtual hugs for those needing one. XBe kind to others and to yourself too.12 -
Morning All
I'm late to the party today, I was up for a few hours in the night and then slept until 9 - feeling slightly jaded at the moment, hopefully a shower will put me right.
All bedding washed and dried yesterday, not enough for a load today.
The little one went home yesterday, they are off on their holidays today so will probably see her on the first day of school. She was very excited, I bought her a new bag and put some spending money in so she's happy! We had a lovely few days which ended up with a visit to a local attraction where she got to go on the roundabout and the little train - haven't seen anyone so excited to ride on the train before!
Hugs to you Mehefin, hope you manage to get through it. What lovely friends you have.
Glad the little one had a good time dp1 and is keeping well.
Sounds like your new lad is a bit of a challenge Ruby.
Happy tipping -taff!
Right, off to the shower, hairdresser coming at 12 so had better get moving. Take care. XX13 -
Morning all
Dry here but the sky looks a bit overcast but I have put a wash on and will try and hang it out for a while.
ai have an appointment this morning for a blood test to check my cholesterol I think it’s standard for someone of my age, I am not having any problems so hope it comes back ok.
I met with new lad and his mum yesterday and he was really heightened again, but we calmed him down and managed a ride on the train and an ice cream, we then went back to their house and she went into the house next door that her parents own and made some phone calls while I sat with him, he slept for around two hours as I think he was exhausted. I spoke to his mum and asked if she still wanted me to continue to work as she is having to be there all the time and I didn’t feel comfortable taking him in my car, and she said yes, she said even if you sit in the house with him while she does other things as it gives her a break so we will continue on for now, I know that it won’t be a long term job but we will continue for now.
I cooked a gammon joint yesterday so we will have that with egg and chips for dinner tonight the leftovers will be made into carbonara next week.
Mehefin have a good evening with your friends and have happy memories, I shall raise a glass to your Dawn tonight xxx
Have good days all and take care xx14 -
Gentle hugs to @Mehefin, I too will raise a wee toast. @Ruby - I hope that it all works out. @Taff - no, not stir crazy. The thing is that for many years I came to exactly this place to do my escaping so being here is enough for most of the time. I just like to not make plans too much and be open to doing ad hoc stuff. Sometimes that happens, sometimes not.12

Okay, so the chickpea protein bars seem to have worked out. They have to sit for four hours in the fridge, then I will see if they hold their shape. I made two tubs with the ingredients I used, and they are sweet enough without any added sugar.
1 tin of chickpeas (blended until smooth)
50g pumpkin seeds (finely chopped)
50g sunflower seeds (finely chopped)
300g pomegranate seeds (other dried fruit would do, but I had these sitting in the freezer)
2/3 cup of vegan protein powder
1tblsp cacao powder (could also use cocoa powder)
1tblsp coconut flour
Mixed together to form a firm dough, then added to dish and put into the fridge. The taste test will be when the others come home, to see if they like it. Using a tin of chickpeas raised eyebrows, but I think it's worked well 😊12
