Santander Credit card

I'd be happy to bet a large amount that plenty of people have had a full application declined after been given the green light on an eligibility checker. The main reason being, it's only when you make a formal application that they have access to all your credit history data.Having said that, using a lender's own eligibility checker tends to give slightly more accurate forecasts than a generic third-party checker. But there are no guarantees. There's nothing lost by making one application. If you should get declined, then leave it a couple of months or so before making any further applications. One hard search on your file is nothing to be concerned about, but several searches in quick succession starts to raise red flags for lenders.1

I had a pre-approved on a Virgin one that went to manual review and was rejected, only one I ever had
I'd echo Clive's point above - test on the card site and then apply via TopCashBack as they usually have a £17 bonus if you get the cardSam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Even though you were pre- approved did they do a full credit check on application.0
