I get the ID request thing every now and then seemingly randomlyLast one was when I wanted to open an additional fixed rate account to my other accounts with this financial group. Message back saying I had to provide full ID prior to the account being opened.A decade ago it was almost every account I opened needed full ID to be supplied so electronic background verification has got a lot better from my point of viewI'm a UK citizen, born here a long time ago, and lived at this address for several decades. The only time I got hard done by was when the ID was rejected as the current passport certification was done "too long ago" though of course how recent such certification was required was not stated on their requirements0

Raisin offer savings accounts with GB Bank occasionally. I've had one, easy to open, no hassle, once you're registered.0

I think the OP would have a tough job to provide any evidence that this is a case of discrimination as GB Bank have simply done what they are required to do by law. This law applies to everyone, regardless of nationality, gender, age or any other characteristic you can mention.0

Miosotis said:I recently came across the GB Bank, while looking for a better interest rate for two fixed rate bonds that are maturing soon! My experience has been excruciating, and finding out how they discriminate against foreigners like me very demeaning, therefore I would like to know if others have had the same experiences and how it felt like for them!
Their demands go on and on and on. First they did not accept my long, foreign name, very normal in many countries around the world, so I accepted to abbreviate it, no problem. Tried all possible combinations, but.... then, of course, none matched the full name in my nominated account! Not my fault, right???? Therefore I had to submit a copy of my passport and a bank statement. I didn't really want to, because I feel that if no British person has to do it, why me and those "like" me? But I did, as I need the best return on my money that I can get! Two days went by with no answer, so I presumed that all was well!
Worried, I phoned the bank! Oh no, they had even more demands. As my bank puts initials on the bank statement, probably the same for everybody and legal in the UK, they didn't accept it!
2. Many UK banks put the first name of the account holder on statements, not just their initial.0 -
It can be surprising how little room some companies allow for names. West Brom BS asked me for my full name; I have 2 middle names (as a fair amount of people do, though well under half - remember arcade games that only gave you space for 3 initials?), and, including spaces, that makes 26 characters for all 3 "forenames". I typed that in fine when applying, but some internal stage couldn't cope with it, and I couldn't access the account properly. It did take about a quarter of an hour on the phone to get the third name abbreviated to an initial.0

Pablo Picasso would have had no chance for a GB Bank account. His full name: Pablo Diego José Francisco de Paula Juan Nepomuceno Crispín Crispiniano María Remedios de la Santísima Trinidad Ruiz PicassoBad luck also for the current Spanish King Felipe VI, who goes by Felipe Juan Pablo Alfonso de Todos los Santos de Borbón y Grecia, or for Aránzazu Isabel María Sánchez Vicario who poses as Arantxa Sánchez Vicario
