CHILD MAINTENANCE PAYMENTS

Options
Hello Everyone,
This is my first post on the Forum but I am sure there will be people out there with the experience and knowledge I need to tap into?
My son turned 18 at the end of May of this year. He is in full time education studying a 3 year Motor Engineering Course.
The course appears to run for only a couple or three days per week giving my son to work a part time job alongside his course.
His take home pay amounts to about £1000 per month.
Whilst this is his first LEVEL ONE year of study he started a different course after leaving school but didn't enjoy it so left the course.
So in effect he is in his second year of Higher education.
I assumed my child Maintenance payments would end when he turned 18 but there are other factors that impact on this.
My questions are: 1. Are his earnings taken into account...some months he may take home more than  me!
2. Do I have to make payments till the completion of his current three year course even though he started and left a different course beforehand?
3. Is the fact that his full time course is actually only 2.5 days per week on average.
Do any of these factors affect the CMS payment calculations?
Many thanks and I'll try to be more succinct next time!!

Is he actually working and the study is kind of a day release course connecting to his work?

From what I remember after 18 they have to be in full time education . I don’t think that stopping and starting another course has any impact.

No, his studies are to become a motor mechanic...his paid work is as a colleague at Tescos!
From what I can tell his studies and work occupy an equal amount of time in his week....give or take?

The key points are: he must be in full time non advanced education - you'd have to check the level of course and if it's classed as full time or part time. Also, you cannot get child benefit for a qualifying young person if they work more than 24hrs per week and get paid for the work. how much is his hourly pay rate? how many hours does he work?

If he does not qualify for child benefit and therefore Child maintenance would also stop.
