Travel claim refused

I was booked to go to New York in May from Saturday to Saturday. On the Saturday morning I received a text from the airline to say my flight had been cancelled due to technical issues and I'd be put onto another flight. The next flight was on the Sunday and via another country. I lost out on a day of my holiday, couldn't get a refund on my hotel room and the airline is offering me $175 (which is another story). I have tried to make a claim through Admiral Travel, I had bought the premium package from them, and after months they have come back to say they won't give me anything as it was a technical fault and the policy doesn't cover it. Does anyone have any advice on how best to proceed, as I think it is shocking that I'm not being able to claim anything

I have just had a similar thing happen. Mine was 22 hours delay at Heathrow and was due to a Mechanical Problem with the Aircraft.
1. All the Insurance Company was liable to pay per my policy was 50 pounds for every full 12 hours of delay. (For refreshments!) They include Mechanical Problems with the Aircraft as a valid reason.
But I didn't even bother claiming for the 50 pounds. (They expect your Airline to get you to the destination and also to provide accommodation overnight and meals. Mine did do that at Heathrow Airport, according to the CAA rules: REGULATION 261/2004 EC).
With my Policy one can abandon the holiday for certain reasons after at least a 24-hour delay and that does include if it is due to Mechanical Problems in my Policy. (Abandon the Trip and claim it all back.) But mine fell just short of that.
2 Re the REGULATION 261/2004 EC. My Airline has agreed it was a Mechanical Problem with the Aircraft and they are going to pay me 520 pounds Compensation. I am currently expecting this payment soon, as it has been agreed.1 -

Thank you for your comments. The airline haven't yet told me what the issue was, I only have the text message saying it was a technical issue, and the insurance company is saying they won't cover that. I think I will push the airline for more compensation, as I lost so much and they can't just sweep it under the carpet0
