Looking at the diagram it seems that you were already moving, i.e. part of normal traffic, and the other person reversed out of the driveway without looking and hit your car.  These are the tpyes of details you need to include in your claim.  I'm not for one minute saying to be dishonest, but if you had already set off from a stationary position, technically the other driver reversed out without checking it was clear so would be at fault.

The other person may seem nice, but usually when faced with a claim that they were entirely at fault, will change their attitude.  Just treat it as an administrative exercise and try not to let it affect you emotionally (easy said than done I know).  Check what the excess is on your policy (voluntary+mandatory) and that will be worst case scenario.  You insurance might go up a bit but in my experience it was 10%

Just make sure you write down your response whilst you remember the details, use factual words and not anything based on assumptions.  E.g. "I reversed into the turning area to turn around.  Once I had set off, a car reversed out of a driveway and hit my car."

Thank you all for your help.
Garage reckons that if a new wing is fitted the bonnet will be able to go back in place. So that would be £700.
My voluntary excess is £250, I think the insurance gives £100.

Frankly, I was slowly moving forward on the road and they didn't check that the empty road wasn't still empty and reversed fast.
But proving that would be impossible.

The guy who reversed into my parked car a couple of months ago we'd swapped numbers and addresses and he turned out to be a nightmare and knew where I lived.

What should you exchange these days. Insurance, name and phone number? Do you have to give your address?
Wondering if I could print off some cards the way this car seems to attract trouble so I don't have to get into discussion or worry about someone turning up on my doorstep.

I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

The law requires you to give registration number, name and address, plus those of the owner if different.

No need for phone number, or insurance details unless someone is injured. In that case, you need to produce your certificate. If you can't, you must produce it to the police "as soon as is reasonably practicable and, in any case, within twenty-four hours".

H mm, it's the address that bothers me. The previous guy was a nut case and I live in a cul-de-sac of people in their 90s and health issues so no help there. They were feisty in the past.

But thanks for making it clear.

They would be able to buy the registered keepers detail from the DVLA as being in an RTA is a legitimate reason for the DVLA to disclose. Insurers do it all the time because a witness just catches the registration of a car running after hitting a parked/unattended vehicle etc.

True, but the RK may not be either the driver or the owner.

Correct, hence why explicitly saying RK's details

There is also the MID, they can obtain insurer from a registration plate that way.
