Paying my tax bill from Santander

I need to have a little rant. Trying to pay my tax bill which is due by Thursday this week. For convenience, I thought I use "Pay by Bank" which is what HMRC call Open Banking payments. I can do this from just about every bank, and even from some Building Societies and Electronic Money Institutions but not from Santander, or from Cahoot. What's wrong with Santander these days?

That's very strange as Santander was one of the original Open Banking members from the very beginning. I've never had to pay the HMRC via open banking, but I'm very surprised they don't offer it.
I've paid loads of other things using Open Banking via Santander and it's worked fine.0 -
Wife & I pay our tax bills every year to HMRC from our Santander account. Never ever had a problem.0

I can pay by Faster Payment but I much prefer OB becuase it saves me from setting up a payee and a reference number.0 -

Yes, I often use OB against my Santander account. I have no idea why it doesn't work with HMRC / why HMRC doesn't work with Santander, as there are well over 3 dozen institutions with which it does work0 -
My moans were heard! Santander is now on the list. May be their OB interface was temporarily down. My world is in order again3

I just pay by debit card. Simple, and I get an email notification that I have paid.1

Unless you're getting some kind of incentive then Open banking or Faster Payment are both much better ideas.GeoffTF said:I just pay by debit card. Simple, and I get an email notification that I have paid.0 -
Why do you say that? I have never had any trouble with paying HMRC by debit card.[Deleted User] said:

1 - OB (on phone / tablet, not online)
2 - card
3 - OB online
4 - FP0 -
You have not mentioned Direct Debit, which ought to be the easiest. I have not looked at that for years, but setting it up looked complicated when I did.friolento said:
