Need help with an Amazon UPS Return

Recently I ordered quite an expensive collectors item from Amazon. They sent me the item but the packaging was ripped and dented badly and some of the items inside were scratched.

I decided to return the item using the option on Amazons website that has UPS come and pick up the goods and provide a label rather than me printing one.

I re-sealed the goods and as requested by Amazon,  removed the original shipping label.

A couple of days later the UPS driver arrived to pick up the goods and handed me what I thought was a receipt after I handed him the parcel.

Now I realize that it was not a receipt but a returns label. 

I went to my account on Amazon to check the returns status and it tells me the item was not picked up and a Returns label was left.

Next I check the tracking details on the UPS website and it tells me the same.

Now I am starting to worry so I call UPS. They tell me to wait a couple of days to see if the status changes but at the moment it looks like no parcel pick up was registered.

Now I call Amazon and explain the situation. They tell me not to worry and that a refund for the amount will be refunded to me within 7 days. The call I found quite stressful as the person was hard to understand. 

I asked them to send me a confirmation email that the refund was being processed and they did so.

When I went back into my Amazon account I see that the return status of my item has vanished completely and only shows as shipped and received by me.

Worrying still, I call Amazon again and talk to someone else to explain the situation.

This person can see no previous evidence of a refund being processed but assures me that I will get a refund in 14 days time after they have the item. Again I ask for email conformation of this.

Have I just made a big mess up by not checking the papers the UPS driver gave me just before he carried my parcel away?

It is totally weird how the whole returns details are no longer available to me and disappeared just after making my first call to Amazon.

I am not sure if all this was an honest mistake by the driver or something that happens a lot in a way to keep returned items.

Please advise and any help would be really appreciated!

    Does that mean there is no address on the parcel?

    I assumed the driver would put a new label on there and the original one I removed as per Amazons instruction.

    Can't see how you are going to get a refund if it cant be delivered to Amazon.

    Is this a actual delivery or a marketplace seller?

    All I can think is to find the local UPS center & contact them to see if the package is sat there, before it gets binned as no address on it.

    For future reference always leave a returns address on any package.
