Painting melamine

I have some ikea cabinets that I would like to paint the doors a different colour.  Has anyone done this successfully and what paint did you use?  Would be good if it also comes in a good range of colours.

remember that preparation is 9/10ths of a good finish.  Paint is only as good as the suitability of the surface you are putting it on, so you may need to thoroughly degrease first, or sand it, depending on what is advised

You need to lightly sand and clean/dry. Get the correct primer and paints. The cabinet doors might be thermofoil rather than melamine.
