Long term travel insurance - couple travelling to Australia

Options
My daughter & her partner are going to Australia to work & travel for 10 - 12 months, with a possible trip to New Zealand while they are there. They don't live together here in the UK but will be travelling & living together for the whole trip.

Should they buy individual travel insurance, or some sort of couple insurance?

Does anyone have any recommendations for particular companies?

Many thanks

If they are intending to work they will need specialistt ravel insurance.

Normal holiiday insurance will not cover them for working.

Thank you sheramber - can you recommend any companies who provide specialist insurance to cover working abroad?

Life is normally simpler if you have a single policy as you are then generally protected for each others pre-existing conditions if the insurer will accept them.

If you do go for a "couples" policy ensure you check that it doesnt require them to be cohabiting in the UK as many family policies do. You can get Group policies which dont have this requirement but are often a bit more expensive.

I'd go for individual insurance policies.
Should they fall out or go different ways which regularly happens in that fairly long time it could cause problems.

Perhaps for all the items needed, 2 countries, working etc it would be helpful to look at forums where people are doing this. You are likely to find a wider range of possible policies and advice you haven't thought of.

The bigger issue here is the length of travel and purpose.. Most policies are capped at 30 or 45 days, max 60 so a year's travel is a whole other ballgame - perhaps backpacker's insurance?

Re joint v individual insurance, you may be able to get a group travel insurance if one person's issues are likely to affect the other's ability / inclination to continue the trip.
