Travel Republic Package Holidays

Options
Hello All,
I am currently in battle mode with Travel Republic. I stupidly decided to deposit for a package holiday on the 15th May. I panicked and called them on the 16th May to cancel. I was told I cannot cancel. We have been going back and forth since then. They have since cancelled because I block my credit card being charged so they were not able to take the second instalment. Now they have passed the flight only segment of the booking which is £150.50 to a debt collector. I had no notice they were going to do this.
They were also demanding £19 for the hotel, which they have dropped.

Any help is welcome.

most flight bookings will be non refundable
    who were the flights with?
do you have access to the terms you agreed to when you made the booking?
By the sounds of it you paid the lower deposit, its not unusual for the full deposit to be required in the event of a cancellation

    Low Deposit Schemes

We may, in our sole discretion, offer you the option to pay a low deposit or monthly instalment plan in respect of certain bookings. This will be indicated next to the specific arrangements in your search results, or as advised by your agent. Additionally, the amount of initial deposit, first instalment, plus details of any further deposit and monthly payments and final balance together with payment due dates will be detailed on the payment page or advised by Our agent before you confirm your booking.

If you cancel your arrangements, any further deposit balance due together with any supplier cancellation charges and our cancellation charge will be payable in full immediately.

Unless expressly stated at the time of booking in relation to a special promotion or booking offer, all deposits (including both initial and further deposits where applicable) are non-refundable and therefore would not be reimbursed should you decide to cancel your booking. However, if you have paid by instalment payments and the total amount paid exceeds the initial deposit together with any supplier cancellation charges and our cancellation charge, then you will be reimbursed the remaining balance.

he following cancellation charges* will be payable where you cancel or your booking is cancelled in accordance with these Booking Conditions (e.g. where you fail to make payment as required) except where otherwise stated. The cancellation charges set out below exclude any amendment charges. Amendment charges and insurance premiums are not refundable in the event of the person(s) to whom they apply cancelling.

    Package Bookings:

    • Bookings cancelled more than 7 days before departure – loss of all deposits paid (initial and second deposit if applicable) whether the outstanding deposit has been paid or not.
    • Booking cancelled 7 days or less before departure – 100% of the booking value

Sounds unlikely that they'd have told you that you cannot cancel - you can always cancel but that doesn't necessarily mean that you get any money back or that you're not due to pay more to get out of the contract you signed up to.

As above, you need to look closely at the cancellation policy to ascertain what your liabilities are and take it from there, but if you still owe them money then they're entitled to pursue you for this.

You don't clarify why booking was 'stupid' or why you then panicked, but in future it'll be best to check Ts & Cs before committing.
  • Hi,

Firstly, may it was not a stupid booking, however we have never ever booked with travel agents before, apart from BA Holidays, so we were not happy to have booked.

I have read the terms and conditions, and yes I did understand them entirely. Our departure date would be March 2026 - as you rightly state, there is a loss of deposits 7 days or more before departure; however Travel Republic wanted me to pay for the entire holiday, now they only want me to pay for the flight only.

And yes, they did via my first telephone call, said I cannot cancel the holiday. They have since dropped the £19 charge for the hotel sections of the package and are now only seeking payment for the flight section. Since the contradiction in their rules.

    Many thanks for your responses.

Thanks for the clarification of the important detail - your first post seemed to suggest that you were unhappy with them seeking to recover any charges at all, but if you're now saying that you understand and accept their right to impose some charges rather than the full package cost they tried initially, then is there any remaining dispute?

TR will have paid the airline for the seat (£150.50) and you need to honour that agreement that you entered into.

If debt collectors are involved it could become costly and messy very quickly.  I suggest you pay what you owe.
  • Thanks everyone your for input and time. Maybe it was a stupid mistake.
