They'd be bust in a week if not.0 -
But yes, if they offer other services they can get other payments, being Pharmacy First is £1k a month, an annual repeat medicine review is £25 per review, EHC consultation is £20 per consult
Add to that the fee they get for the medicine is not linked to what they pay for it so if they can buy the meds cheaper they make a profit on that too.
There's a spreadsheet on the community pharmacy website that will calculate the revenue for you if you enter how many items you are dispensing per month, how many consults you are doing etc.0 -
AIUI, the private prescription is optional.
An alternative is to request the Dentist to write to the GP with their recommendation (for which the Dentist will probably charge), and then make an appointment with the GP and then the GP, if they agree, can prepare the NHS prescription and then the individual can collect from the pharmacy in the normal manner, with the NHS prescriptions fees as appropriate.
It is probably all far easier and cheaper (for everyone) to have the private prescription and pay the pharmacy charges for the medicine.
I think the majority of healthcare being via the NHS means that people are not recognisable or appreciative of the true costs. We should all remember that medics (of all discipline) are highly trained and highly skilled professionals and the fees should be so aligned.2 -

Patients could face severe disruptions to accessing medication and clinical services in the future after a report today found that more than three out of four pharmacies would not be able to continue under the current financial environment.
