Unfortunately if you want to repot I would say to smash the clay pot, I had trouble getting a shrub out of a plastic pot and had to saw it out!! Hope it recovers 2p.

Have you shoved a knife or other thin long object between the soil and the pot, all the way round, to separate them? And in through the holes at the bottom? That should help get it out.

Unfortunately the pot probably costs more than the bay tree now.
My old ones went over in a gale so I treated myself for the front garden.

I did try cutting round the lilac pot with a knife but 2 of us couldn't pull it out so it's still there!

Can't get in the bottom, there's stones over the hole.

I'll try and get to the cheapie DIY shop for a bread knife. With this weather the towns heaving.

Thanks for the video Fatbelly. I've watched half. Will finish it later. I'll check out his others too. You can always learn more
I probably can't make it a pyramid again. It doubled as my Christmas tree.
Christmas tree for real has also suffered with the constant heat.

I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

I use an old bread knife down the inside all round the pot.

It helps if the soil is wet.

Use a screwdriver or long metal rod to poke up through the stones covering the hole in the bottom.

I have also used a saw , instead of a knife when the pot was full of roots which the knife wouldn’t cut through.

Went looking for a bread knife or saw today but they were too small.
I have moved it into the real shade though and it's looking a tad relieved.

There are some 10 inch blades under a tenner on Amazon, if that would suit

We had to break the pot to get our old baytree out to repot it. We later lost it a couple of years back when we hadn't realised the winter winds had dried the pot out. Although there had been quite a lot of rain, the size of the top of the lollypop was stopping a lot of the rain getting into the pot. We cut the tree off at the bottom of the trunk, intending to get rid, but the roots put up new growth. We gave the resulting new bush to a neighbour and bought a new lollypop to plant into the ground.
