ParcelHero - charging for returned parcel

This is part of a bigger saga I will post about with further questions, but for now I’m hoping someone can help me understand my rights with charges for postage via ParcelHero.
I sent a parcel (a return) to Italy via ParcelHero & paid the postage via my debit card. The company haven’t accepted the parcel and it is on its way back to me.
ParcelHero have now charged me a return postage fee (same as the cost to send the parcel). They have emailed to explain this but not as a prior notification, I saw the pending payment in my bank before the email.
I want to stop the payment but not sure if that would lead to further issues with fines and impacting credit checks. I’m assuming this was somewhere in the T&Cs when sending the parcel.
Is this a usual practice? Do I have to just pay the fine?
I will separately be complaining to the company about their awful returns process (they don’t cover the cost of returns) & why I am now paying a second lot of postage because they didn’t accept delivery of the parcel.
Thanks

What is the fine you refer to? Do you simply mean the cost of return postage? Do you know why the company refused to accept the package?0

Who do you think should pay Parcel Hero for the job of returning your parcel because someone else messed up?0
