EON prepay electric meter stopped working-what happens to the existing credit if replaced?
Options
Hello everyone, as the title said, the EON PrePay meter at the place I live stopped working. We had a power cut last week and when I checked my meter earlier today, the screen was blank. I've looked on the internet and apparently this happens after power cuts.
Now, last I checked last week I still had £190 left on the meter and I don't think I've used more than £20-£30 worth of electrics since, I wondered if anyone who had gone through this experience remembers if they could recover their remaining credit?
This credit was planned to last me until September-October and would leave a bit of a financial loss they can't read how much I still had left and credited back.
I'll obviously notify my renting agency and EON tomorrow, they tried to get me to upgrade to a smart meter for ages which makes me think they could move fast to replace the meter, but I just want to know what to expect and if there's anything I can bring up to get my credit back.
Thank you.

Sometimes they can recover the credit record, other times you'll have to provide evidence of your topups and argue with them. It's too late now, but carrying large credit balances on a prepayment meter is risky for exactly this sort out reason. Although you can see the credit on the meter (usually), when you top up the money gets sent to Eon and recorded against an account they have for you there, so they should be able to see what you have bought, and the key also passes on a reading from when it was last in the meter (Meter -> key -> shop -> Eon).
They may need to estimate how much of the credit you have spent, but they won't do that until the meter is fixed/replaced.
As you have power they are unlikely to treat it as an emergency.0 -
I wouldn't expect them to rush to replace it.
Some suppliers just don't seem bothered, there are thousands like it
Not having to top up now, I'm sure you will use a lot more than what credit you may have had left by the time they replace it.0
