Mid term increase, car insurance

I updated my daughters occupation when she finished school and started her new job with car insurance provider. I was expecting to pay something additional , however after initially being told no increase, I got an email the other day to say my monthly premiums were going up from 177 per month to 449. As you can imagine i was shocked at such an increase as they had previously sent me an email confirming updated information and no increase. I have spoken with the company and they feel it is a justified price. Has anyone had a massive increase like this? The profession my daughter is in does not involve driving for her job, she is office based.

Get some quotes on her new employment using comparison sites as might be better cancelling and getting new insurance?
Is she using the car for commuting to work? If so, hopefully you added commuting to the policy.1 -
She travels by bus to work, only used for social and domestic presently. I have looked on comparison sites and managed to get a quote more than 250 cheaper per month. Thank you for your response. I will be cancelling down, just got quote for cancelling.0

The premium is whatever the premium is, the agents on the phone have little say in most firms and if you are buying from an intermediary then all they have to play with is the razor thin margin on Motor... they won't sell it to you for less than they have to pay the insurer.
You do have grounds for complaint that they have changed the price after advising no movement. You won't get them to agree to honour the no price increase but they may offer at least token compensation for their error which will at least soften the blow of the cost of cancellation.1
