Cruise travel insurance

Options
I had a heart attack 2 weeks before a cruise and put in a claim to my travel insurance company.
I have a multi-trip worldwide policy which I had rolled over from 2024. This renewal did not include cruise cover and therefore my claim was declined. My question is, why doesn't our policy cover the cancellation of this holiday as we had not had the chance to go on the cruise?
Surely cruise cover is only applicable when you embark on the cruise.

Why would they pay you back for a cruise if they dont cover cruises? I dont follow your logic.

There are two levels of cruise cover... the most fundamental of if the cruise is covered in any way shape or form, some policies include this as standard others its an optional extra. The second is some cruise specific things like cover if you are confined to your cabin etc, almost all policies this is an optional extra.

Do you have a link to your policy book you can share? If not then you will need to read it yourself but it sounds on the surface like you've bought one with no cover for a holiday involving a cruise unless the optional extra is bought. More likely to happen if you buy on price.

From the insurer's perspective, you were going on a cruise and didn't take out cruise insurance.  Therefore they have no reason to pay out.

It would be the same if you had European cover and had to cancel a US trip- the insurance purely doesn't cover that event.
