I have a credit card in Australia with a large balance on it. Is there a bank that will do an % balance transfer from the Australian card to a British credit card. Alternatively would it be cheaper for me to use one of my credit cards here to pay off the balance in Australia and then find an interest free option in the UK. Is anyone else in the same position?

Sadly not.
You are going to be stuck send a manual payment from your bank account to clear the balance on the Aus card.
If you don't have the funds than a money transfer card would be the only option to transfer funds to your bank account & then to your Aus CC.Life in the slow lane0 -
