Casting iPhone to TV..?

Wife wants to cast her iPhone to the TV. Some times she pays to watch events abroad & would like to watch them on a bigger screen.
We don't have Apple TV but she's been banging on about getting it for this so I started looking in to seeing if she could achieve what she wanted to without spending silly money.
We Have a Nvidia Shield TV Pro 2019 but I don't think it can be done through that?
We have an Amazon Fire Stick (4K i think? We don't use it since we got the Shield).
So I did some Googling & found she 'just needs' a HDMI to USB-C (iPhone 16 Pro) cable, so I bought one.
Instantly it worked ... sort of. It would display image but no sound. She tried playing back footage of a concert she's been to & it was silent.
Tried out a YouTube video - and that DID play sound via the TV.
Tried her own camera recorded video & once again no sound.
Then she tried playing the video on her phone (obviously with sound coming out) and then connected the cable (to the TV) and sound DID come out at this point.
But obviously that's a bit faffy.
So, a good way to achieve what she wants to without spending the earth?
Unless spending the earth is what's required?

What’s spending the earth to you?
Apple TV can be had for around £100 used and will be by far the easiest solution for an iPhone user.A happy wife is a happy home.0 -
There are various apps you can install on a FireStick to enable it to be an AirPlay receiver like AirScreen, DoCast, and LetsView. Maybe Nvidia Shield has similar apps. You are limited to screen mirroring -v- full streaming
You are better getting a Roku or AppleTV which both have native AirPlay 2 support. Its strongly suggested that a new AppleTV will be coming later this year so it may be worth holding off for those that dispose of their current setups for the new one.0 -
Is what I'm asking not achievable by some kind of adapter? I was looking on YouTube & saw people connecting via 2 methods - the cable in the link I gave but also some adaptery kind of gizmo.
And spending the earth to me is like 150 if the job can be done for 15.
If £XYZ NEEDS to be spent then that's a different matter.0 -
I use a Chromecast into an HDMI slot in the back of the TV. Sync it with your phone and you can wirelessly show videos on the TV, whether from recorded videos, YouTube, etc.
While Google have stopped these, you can get one from a reseller for £10-15.1 -

A cable however still only allows mirroring rather than full streaming0 -
Simplest and most likely to work is the genuine Apple USB-C to HDMI adapter, expect to pay £60ish.0

Just get a Roku express does the job
I paid £15 for mine0 -
