It's more about sight lines and profiles for us - when you have aluminum profiles of say 2-3 cm VS the alternative in upvc it makes sure a difference, especially if you've got skylights etc. Possibly some upvc has narrower profiles now, but I doubt they'd get as slim as aluminum. Good to know though, wasn't something I was aware of!

I've only had to replace one unit and used a company called Cloudy2Clear.  I believe it's a franchise business but I was very happy with the price and the quality of the work.  That was a few years ago so I can't remember the actual price.
We just use our local window company, and they are happy to send someone out to measure and fit new DG units, sort out stuck locks/handles etc.
Probably helps that we have been bought windows from them in the past.

Yeah, that sort of relationship would be great. Sadly places near us are very much white gold type vibe lol

If you want minimal frame, take a look at the offering from Crittall. Yes, they are still in business churning out windows and doors. Just make sure you are sitting down when presented with the price :o

Another thing to bear in mind. Replacement windows need to comply with Building Regulations for thermal performance. Whilst steel and aluminium may not be as good as uPVC, the frames are only a small part of the equation.

Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.

You also could look at a newer UK supplier - Sheerline.

Both of those look decent, both not upvc, which is why we were looking to alu, the doors and windows we have at the back are Cortizo, they seem to do the job nicely.

    Hey everyone,

Our windows at the front have some units which have gone, otherwise the windows are alright. Has anyone had theirs replaced and got any feedback on the process?

It looks like it might cost say 300 quid per unit, so, for a three window area like my daughter's bedroom I'd not get much change from a grand.

I'm reluctant to change the windows, as the render isn't brilliant on the front, so I'm convinced it'd be a costly process - new windows and new render. Not to mention the fact we have wooden shutters fitted inside, which whilst not attached to the windows, would probably complicate the fitting of new windows. (perhaps necessitating their removal and adding, which I'm sure a window company wouldn't do!).

    Thoughts much appreciated!

I have no connection with this company except as a very satisfied  customer when I had the same issue in London

They look decent, and only half hour away, however, their website makes me think they just produce and supply as opposed to measure and fit?

We had 2 bay windows and a flat window glass replaced about 8 years ago and it was £800 I did not like the lead on the old ones

I've used cloudy2clear twice and would use them again if needed
