Have been trying to answer this question for a while: My daughter only has an automatic licence. Should she be able to find a policy that will allow her to drive someone else's car as long as it is also an automatic. Looking for this to use in an emergency. Thanks
. Never heard of anyone who has different treatment for automatic licenses than full.
Provided I hold a licence to drive that car.
Surely if the stipulation is as per Goudy post above then the requirement to hold a licence for that car would be different treatment for an automatic only licence as they wouldn't hold a licence for manual car. Or did you mean something else?
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.

That's the way I read it and understand it.

I could as I hold a full "B" licence, drive someone else's car either manual or automatic with the owners permission. (third party only). Even though my car is automatic and insured as an automatic model.

If I only had a "B Auto" licence that would restrict me to only drive automatics with the owners permission (on a third party only).

So in the interest of the OP, if their daughter only has a "B Auto" licence, that's all she can drive.
Whether that's her own car or if her insurance policy allows her to drive someone else's car with permission.

You need the right licence to drive whatever vehicle it is, if it's your own or someone else's.

No, both someone with an automatic and full driving licence would have that clause so the insurer isnt differentiating. The insurer not differentiating doesnt mean everyone can drive everything, someone with B will be able to drive more than B Auto however neither could drive a VW Beetle conversion thats been put on tracks as that requires a H (lets ignore the Q of if a beetle on tracks is still a "car")

Never known an insurer that says B Auto cannot have DoC but B can

I think the question related to "If I have an auto-only endorsement on my licence, am I likely to have the DOC too?" (since not all policies have DOC on them). ie is the likelihood of having DOC different depending on the licence restriction.

The fact that an auto licence holder can only legally drive an auto car is pretty obvious.
