Depending on the size of the plot you are after, then this place, could be useful.

Please take careful note of the fact that the land DOES NOT have planning permission on it.

This means it could well take years to even be able to erect a small shed on it...

Of course, if you want it for pasture, then sorry to have pointed out the obvious

thanks john, I can't seem to find our dream house so was thinking of building our own!
• Try looking for sites with old or more or less non-existent rundown dwellings on them. Far easier to get replacement planning permission than new build....especially in green belt areas.
I haven't been asked to tell you that I'm the Board Drunk for this board. As the night wears on, my posts will become worse, with simple spelling mistakes, inane ramblings, and a blatant disregard for the truth. I have no authority to do anything, so there's no point asking or telling me. If you see me past midnight, please tell me to get my coat and order me a taxi.

Hi - yes, I am also looking to self-build down the line so that's why I posted. The trouble is that you have to take a very long term view (and be prepared for battles and disappointments) if you buy a 'greenfield' site with no buildings on it and no planning permission.

You may struggle for years (having sunk money into it to acquire the land) and still get a 'no'.

Go to google, type in building plot ,followed by the county you wish to build in.I've just tried it with good results. There are various self build magazines, but they tend to make the process sound a bed of roses, wouldn't sell any copies if they didn't.Do as much research as possible before starting using the term self build via google.
Are you sub -contracting various trades,or employing builder to do the lot? Also allow for the fact that the best builders are the busiest and you may have to book them way ahead.

There's no way I'd be persuaded to track down some land, design my own house, and then live in a caravan for a few years while its built.

If you really want that dream home the best route is to buy a smaller/cheaper than you can afford house in the area you want with enough plot to extend and make those improvements that bring it close to your ideal.

Life's too short.
