HMRC and stopping payroll

Limited business with 2 employees (both directors). Not much activity recently so wish to stop paying salary for both directors for a few months.

Do I need to tell HMRC, and if so what route please?

Thank you

Who normally does your payroll? If it's you, does your software give any clues? Do you have and have you asked your accountant?

I THINK you'd just do a nil return each month in the same way as you report when you are paid. You definitely can't just do nothing.

Declare nil returns via the monthly payroll .

Should in fact be a tax refund made.
