Octopus tariff renew: when coming into effect?

My Octopus tariff is coming to an end in August. I have got email renewal invitation and wish to renew into another fixed tariff.  My question is: if I renew now, does the new tariff come into force immediately or when my current tariff ends? I would like to keep my current (cheaper) tariff as long as possible apparently.

    If they are anything like EDF you can choose to switch tariffs immediately or when your current one ends.
