Transfer SIM card to new iPhone

Just transfer my SIM card to new iPhone, was surprised no contacts was transferred. What do I do?

SIM cards haven't been a medium to hold contacts for a couple of decades.3

That's right, on an iPhone your contacts are stored in iCloud. They should have been restored when you set up your new phone. +Unless you choose not to restore and selected to setup from scratch1
