“A printer’s inkpad is at the end of its service life. Please contact Epson Support”
A friend just got the above message and their printer has stopped working. Does anyone know how this can be overridden so the printer can continue working? It seems a pity to throw away the printer.

It's stopped working for a reason, the pads have absorbed enough ink to the point where its possibly they are full and to continue using may "flood" the printer.

its a ten year old printer.  There are replacement pads on Amazon1 but you'll have to take the printer apart to replace them and fix them and then figure out how to reset the waste counter in the software

Check the Epson reset utility and see if your printer is on the list of compatible printers.

I have read that you can usually get away with just resetting the warning without changing the pad at least once - but don't blame me if it makes a mess! Maybe stand it in an old tea tray rather than directly on decent furniture!

My Epson (860) gave that message a couple of months ago and my options were to try a reset (for which you pay for a code), new printer - expensive, buy the replacement kit.  Bought mine from Printer Potty - cheapest option.  Was dreading taking apart the printer but I used to be an engineer (I'm cured now) so watched the tutorial that came with the kit a few times and did the job.  Perfect and the reset code worked first time.  No mess, although I did not use their supplied gloves (too small) as I have some of my own.
