Stairwell carpet stinks after being shampoo'd with machine.

I have a RugDoctor machine, after I got it a few months ago I shampoo'd the whole flat and the only smell I noticed was on the stairwell/front door area which was a smelly feet smell, I did it again a week later and the smell was still there but not as bad and went away after a few weeks.
I decided to do it again as spilled a few drops of cooking oil on carpet and I soaked the area first with boiling water and washing up liquid then went over it with machine.
It really smelt like damp so 3 days later I have tried again and it still stinks of damp badly, floor feels dry but it's possible the floorboards themselves.
Just don't know why it's so bad at the front door, I know it may take a few days to clean fully just wondered if there was any products to help speed it up or hide the smell until it's dry.

Sounds like it’s just taking too long to dry.
How did you ventilate the area while it dries off?All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
Had same issues. You have wet it too much. It's best to go over it once then let it dry and then go over it again to prevent the carpet and underlay from getting saturated. The smell will go after a couple of days though.1

How did you ventilate the area while it dries off?No ventilation which I assume is the main issue. The rest of the flat I have shampoo'd has windows for ventilation, this is a front door that opens and goes straight into steps into the flat so the only thing I can do there is leave a front door open which is a security risk.I left it open today for about an hour and a half as was getting meter replaced and the meter is behind the door and that seems to have helped.

Why not sit out in the nice weather in your doorway, with the door open behind you?
I often do this at the moment in the evening with a book, for a big dose of cooler air to cool the whole place before bed (ground floor).0 -

Well it got some airing today after meter repairman came back so that was another 90 minutes, got rid of the worst of it.Bit complicated my setup, my front door opens onto a path and pavement and I have a dog that would run off easily and my next door neighbours door is about 2 foot from my door.0

And make sure if you’re in your underwear that the door can’t swing shut behind you.All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

The way she is trained she wont bark if I leave the house but if I close the stairwell door she does bark.If need be I can just tie her up though I'd just prefer her to be secure if I am outside.0

Those rug doctors wont extract the excessive amount of water and shampoo mix your putting down on the dirty/worst areas and which because your using so much boiled water and/or water/shampoo mix will also soak into the underlay if present .
Once wet ,the carpet and/or underlay will stink for about 3 days at least easily more which depends on ventilation and drying temps or if in a basement etc .
This stink will happen consistantly with flooded areas or isolated areas if the water is not extraction/shampoo cleaned with proper equipment and experience
The key is to extract all the water with a powerful wet vac hoover and stainless steel wand these wet vacs have two 1200w motors .
The rug doctor will be hopeless at extraction its a toy .
You could use industrial air dryers to speed up drying at further rental/electricity cost or just wait it out and ventilate as much as poss.
Even a fan would help to a lesser degree
You can buy carpet deodouriser products but you just masking the smell .
Is it also possible you dog rests lays on the carpet in the doorway area alot ?
Animals can also be a cause of bad smells after carpet cleaning but the fact you dumped boiling water into the carpet means that with excessive saturation it was always going to end badly in one of the most dirty and tracked areas of the house
The carpet because its very damp/wet for days now will pick up further excessive dirt from feet shoes and paws .
Just imagine walking continually on a just cleaned wet white shirt for three days.....its going to take dirt and mark .
