The brakes automatically applied themselves?0

I believe this a known / well reported fault - the "emergency braking front assist", as VW call it, deciding there is an emergency.0

You describe it as 'Tiguan death trap' but could it also be described as 'Tiguan Front-Assist Emergency Brake Applied Unprompted'?
If so, it's a very common topic on VW forums. It's not a fault, the system is designed to apply the brakes if it thinks a pedestrian or cyclist is too close for safety. The radar sensor for it is in the VW roundel on the front of the car. Some drivers claim that polishing the sensor makes a difference.2 -
Unless a fault can be identified then you've little chance of a successful rejection.
Maybe the topic needs renaming as follows "Aggressive Tiguan driver keeps triggering safety feature"7 -
Advice? If there's no fault you're going to struggle. If you're determined to pay a solicitor, follow their advice.0

Surely if there is no hazard which requires the brakes to be applied, and the automated system activates there must be a fault of some sort. I have a Nissan and that happened, thankfully only once, soon after I purchased it. It scared the living daylights out of me and thankfully there was nobody behind me. The brakes did an emergency stop complete with squealing tyres and smoke. In my instance there was a completely clear, dead straight, road ahead.1 -
My Cupra has done it 4 times in 2 years, always in reverse at very low speed. Stops with such a jar I was sure I'd hit something the first time. Twice in rain, twice when fine weather. Nothing there I could see. I'd hate it to happen at any speed. I do get the collission warning sometimes If I get to close to someone turning off or something.Mr Generous - Landlord for more than 10 years. Generous? - Possibly but sarcastic more likely.0

Can you turn off the feature? My BMW once took a manhole cover at the bottom of a hill to be an obstacle and applied the brakes.Another time I was on a road which bent to the right and it took a motorcycle waiting to come out of the junction to the left as reason to panic. It's never just done it for no reason though; than must be disconcerting and impact your confidence in driving the vehicle.Often in bad weather I get a warning that the driver aids are disablked due to poor visibility.0
