Free Home Insulation from ‘Green Energy Hub’ – Is This Legit? Any Experience or Advice?

Hi everyone,
I’ve been looking through the forum categories and wasn’t quite sure where to post this – hopefully I’ve picked the right place! I’d really appreciate any advice or guidance on the situation below.
A few days ago, a young sales rep knocked on our door. He was clearly quite new to the job, very polite, and mentioned he was working part-time to supplement his income. He said he was representing a company called The Green Energy Hub – here’s their website:
According to him, they help people apply for free insulation (wall, loft, etc.) funded by the government under some sort of energy efficiency scheme. I’m not very up to date with these schemes, so I was naturally a bit cautious.
He explained that people may qualify if they have certain health conditions or receive benefits. In our case:
• My daughter is autistic and receives PIP and has been in and out of hospital in the past.
• I’m her full-time carer and receive Carer’s Allowance.
• My wife and daughter both have asthma (though it’s relatively mild, in my opinion).
He suggested that those health (mainly the asthma) issues might qualify us for the scheme. The sales person seemed to think that asthma could be a valid reason for eligibility, but I’m honestly not sure.
My concerns and questions:
1. Has anyone here heard of or dealt with this company – The Green Energy Hub?
2. Even if not – has anyone used similar services or successfully applied for energy efficiency grants through a third party?
3. Does this sound genuine – or should I be wary of these kinds of offers?
4. Is it really possible to qualify for free insulation just for having asthma or being on PIP/Carer’s Allowance?
I’m open-minded but also a bit cynical when it comes to these things. I am aware that government grants exist for home insulation and other improvements. However, I always felt that we wouldn't qualify. I don’t want to do anything illegal or fall into a trap – especially if it could cause issues down the line.
Thanks for reading – and I’d really welcome your thoughts or any experiences you can share!
Thank you.

About 2 years ago when i was made redundant i spent alot of time on the internet looking for things that i might be able to claim because i was unemployed.
i came across one of these energy efficiency companies and having read their website i proceeded to fill in the online forms and sure enough a few days later they rang me and sent someone round to check over my property.
Weeks and weeks went past and i heard nothing so i rang them up and when i spoke to someone they told me my property would not qualify. When i asked why i was told that to qualify they (the company) need to demonstrate to the government that the improvements they made have improved my EPC by two ratings (i.e. when the chap came out to access my property he calculated i had an EPC rating of D, so if they do any improvements my EPC needs to be atleast B rating otherwise they (the company) won't get paid by the government.
Unfortunately for me because my property already had wall insulation and loft insulation it would be almost impossible for then to do anything that would improve my EPC substantially.
I sarcastically said, well what if i took all my windows out, then my EPC would be something like F and you come along and fit me some new windows and it will improve the EPC to D -----> he said they don't do windows, or doors (just the basic insulation because that's what their only able to claim).
There was no mention of EPC rating improvements on their website. i came to the conclusion that what was on their website was just topline info and that there was a lot more criteria that needs to be met.
This was my experience, others may have had a different one to me

Note: the energy company that came out to my house never gave me a copy of the EPC and never did they submit it to be formally registered (because i never paid for it they probably didn't have to?)
Not all properties have an EPC listed (not sure why?)1 -
