Hi All,  just to  let you all know, we perceived with the case regarding my husbands watch, stating Consumer Act 2015.  Went to small claims court, and we received our money back in full, plus court costs and interest

The watch was £330.00.  Rotary watches are promoted as lasting decades
Are they?  Where?  Their website advertises a 2+1 year warranty.  That's pretty mean if the watches are supposed to last decades.  I'm sure many of them do last decades, especially if properly serviced, but that's not the same as them being promoted for that longevity.

However, I'd agree that three years for a £330 watch is unacceptable, so follow the advice I gave earlier and have it inspected.  If the fault is an inherent one, the cost of the inspection and report should be covered by the retailer.
And yet for mechanical watches only worn occasionally they say should be serviced every 5-7 years despite the 2+1 warranty. Quartz they dont even contemplate a service need saying they battery will need changing every 2-3 years.

It is not economical or necessary to service a low cost quartz movement, they are generally designed to run for 15-20 years and then wear out as most of the gearing is plastic and therefore self lubricating.

Even an automatic Rotary is not worth servicing as most use Miyota 8n24 or 8215 movements which cost about £25 to purchase new.
Whenever anyone gives me a broken rotary automatic I recommend just replacing the whole movement (with their permission of course)
and then I switch over the winding rotor. I will service it if it holds some special sentimental value, but it is a far more expensive option.

Basically, for something like a Rotary, ignore their servicing recommendations, and just run them until it stops working!
    :)

Edit: Apologies for the late reply, the OP's (much appreciated) situation update revived the thread, but only showed me page 1 initially!
    o:)

    • The rich buy assets.
    • The poor only have expenses.
    • The middle class buy liabilities they think are assets.

Well the court waiting times must be vastly shorter where you live than in most of the country to apparently achieve all this in two months!

Well done.  I'm pleasantly surprised at how quickly the case came to court.  Even recently I've heard of people waiting over nine months.  I assume there are different backlogs in different regions?
