There are benefits which are means tested against income, others are not
Why have you not previously claimed your state pension ?
What other income have you been living on ?
What other benefits have you been claiming ?
With at least 15 years deferment there is likely to be a large lump sum arriving but there should be no reason not to claim.

My late mother was on Severe Disablement allowance if that is what you are talking about. When she reached pension age she had the choice of remaining on SDA or claiming her pension . She stayed on SDA because it wasn’t taxable but her pension would have been. As far as I am aware SDA no longer exists though people of pension age who carried on claiming It could remain in receipt until their circumstances changed so I think you would need to seek specialist advice as to the best course of action

    from gov.uk

    Severe Disablement Allowance

Severe Disablement Allowance is being replaced with Employment and Support Allowance (ESA).

If you’re already claiming Severe Disablement Allowance and you’re under State Pension age, you’ll be reassessed to see if you’re eligible to get ESAinstead.

If you’ve reached State Pension age, you’ll continue to get Severe Disablement Allowance unless your circumstances change.

As above, you need to get some specialist advice because SDA essentially no longer exists as a new benefit to claim.

You’d need to establish which is the more favourable of the two - State Pension or SDA.

It may be more advantageous to stick with SDA but look into Pension Credit, or it may be better to claim State Pension - and potentially Pension Credit too.

I’d recommend Citizen’s Advice or Age UK.
