Child benefit - changing jobs and now earning more

I claim child benefit but am changing jobs which will take me over the threshold & no point me continuing claiming. My question is, since April until this month I have claimed for child benefit, but from August I will be earning more and over the threshold for the higher rate tax charge - will I still need to complete a self assessment even though I have opted out of payments for when I earn more?

If by the end of the year you have earned over the annual threshold then you will need to do a self assessment.0

Yes. The HIBC is calculated on an annual basis.
If your adjusted net income from 6 April 25- 5 April 26 is over £60,000 then the child benefit received since April will be reclaimed on a sliding scale. The fact that the increase is from part way through the year doesn’t matter. It is the annual amount that matters.0 -

Will your taxable income for 2025-26 definitely be at least £60,200?0 -

Have a read of this, it looks like you could be in a position to avoid Self Assessment now.
