expedia hotel frustration

I had booked a hotel room in UK through Expedia, and paid for it on the Expedia site with credit card. On arrival at the hotel, they knew nothing about the booking and had no available rooms, so we had to do a last minute booking at another hotel.
Expedia say that they can't refund me as the hotel won't honor the cancellation and give Expedia the money to pass on to me. 
The hotel say that they never received the booking or the money.
I can't prove who is right and who is wrong, I just know I'd like to get a refund
anyone know what are my rights, and what can I push for?

  • Expedia should refund you, try the CEO contact on the CEO email website.

    I think using Expedia breaks the chain for S75, possible chargeback with bank if no joy with Expedia

    Do you have any confirmation from Expedia for the booking?

    Get hotel to confirm in writing they did not have a booking

    Contact credit card for a chargeback for non receipt of service. 👍

    Try calling them again - I had similar case before for just one night, paid £50 through Expedia and ended up buying another hotel for £75. They refunded £75 to me.

    If they still say no - call your bank - and they will sort it out - you will need emails/proofs showing they refuse refund for not provided service.

    For anyone else in future
    It is a good idea to phone the hotel in advance and ask them for the booking reference
    I always do this
