Morning all,
we had a power cut over the weekend (RCB2, so no upstairs lights, downstairs sockets, or boiler). Emergency call out came and put the boiler and lights onto RCB 1, leaving us with no downstairs sockets. They then sent a quote back to the insurance company to fully invest the sockets downstairs.

Insurance company called later in the day to inform us that it’s no longer covered as we have some power in the house. I’ve attached the policy document excerpt below which, in my opinion, clearly states it’s covered if it’s 1 or more circuits or lights and/or sockets. Sadly, the intro paragraph at the top seems to make the operator think it has to be a total failure to qualify.
any thoughts appreciated. We’ve logged complaint but now sat in a spider web of extension cables from upstairs 🤦♂️
thanks in advance.

Assuming this is the correct policy book for your policy then the text at the top are the rules and the example below are illustrations to be used to help interpret the text at the top but shouldn't be considered exhaustive
The question is if its is intended to be read as (All sockets + lighting) on one or more ring or (All sockets) and (lighting on one or more ring). It is slightly ambiguous as it's written however if there are two reasonable interpretations of text then the ombudsman will side with your interpretation rather than just what Tesco had meant.0
