Gardening apps
Options
My husband has been looking at apps which can check plant leaves to advise the name of the plant, or to recognise various diseases.
However, the apps he has found, although saying they're free, offer free for 7 days, followed by subscription charge. In true MSE style, he wondered whether there are any which are free, with no subs to pay.
He has an iphone, can anyone please advise?
thank you

While waiting for app suggestions I'll make a suggestion
Others may disagree but for me the internet isn't the best place for diagnosing plant diseases and what to do about them.
It's a tool to follow up but can mislead and takes longer than a book. I wouldn't rely on one site.
This has been applauded for years as a good easy one to use

I've found most plant apps to be a bit hit and miss.

I am a member of a facebook group where people regularly post questions about their plants and identification. They have often found the apps are not helpful. I suspect there are loads of groups but this one seems quite helpful. https://www.facebook.com/groups/585686578447904/2

Thanks everyone for your suggestions.
My OH will look for the books mentioned.
Regarding Plant Net, he had already downloaded the app, but it states that it is only free for seven days. There don't seem to be any 'real' free apps.
Thank you0 -
Another vote for PlantNet, but I use an Android phone. I've never paid anything to use it.1

@Beeblebr0x Have you being using PlantNet for a while? They seem to be offering just 7 days free at present.0

I use PictureThis to identify plants but for plant diseases, the internet or dg Hessayon. There are general books or specific plants/veg books, they're really good. I still have soe of my fathers where he's written stff in them so scour some charity shops too... or world of books.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi1

Thanks for your response.
You used to be able to download many free apps, but these days it all seems to be subscriptions.0
