Hi
Our DVD recorder is playing up. Its quite old now.
We have a HD TV & a sky+ HD box.
We rarely ever used the record facility, but DH thinks we should get another to keep our options open.
Do you need a special HD/blueray DVD player to get the benefit of a HD TV?
I'm guessing you do.
Is it worth it?
If I play normal DVDs on a HD/blueray DVD would I just get a bog standard picture?
We watch a lot of sky, rarely use the DVD. He has a PS3 (thats blueray isn't it), so we could get a cheapo DVD & bring down the PS3 from the bedroom if we ever buy a blueray film?
Thanks to anyone that can advise on what I should buy?

I would suggest that your own suggestion of getting a cheapo DVD & bring down the PS3 from the bedroom is by far the best solution. Seems pointless having the cutting edge technology sitting there doing nothing.
If you watch ordinary DVDs, the PS3 will upscale it
"Version 1.80 features upscaling of PlayStation® and PlayStation 2 games, and DVD movies up to full 1080p HD resolution when viewed on a compatible HD TV set"
By the way, I would suggest that, unless your TV has 2 HDMI or more sockets, you might want to consider an HDMI switch0 -
I agree with red rose, ps3 is the best option, with the price of blu ray players at least £250'ish it's just daft to have one as well as the ps3, in fact I've thought about buying a ps3 on that basis alone. There are 10 types of people in the world; those who understand binary and those who don't...0

and the the reall kicker is nobody knows which format will win out, why blow £250 on a player you are unlekely to use and could well be obsolite when a combo player will be along in a few months for £50 odds0
