Santander Business Everyday Business Account - what happened to free business banking for life?

Got a letter today saying my Santander business banking account will be changed to a Business Current Account - Classic which will incur a £9.99 a month fee.

When i opened this account in 2008 it was sold with a promise of free business banking 'for life'.

I believe Santander tried to wriggle out of this before and failed. This seems to be them trying again. Surely many others will remember this issue and I wonder if they can share what we can do about it?

I too have one of the Free Banking forever tariffs which was originally offered by Abbey National (opened in 2003).

I have found the original T&C. Although I can find nothing specific relating to the Free Banking forever tariff in the T&C, the key features document states that the Free Banking forever will continue subject to 'relevant changes to the law, regulation or the imposition of any tax in connection with bank charges'. I do not believe any of those changes have occurred.

In the T&C document it states that if there is any change which is to the client's disadvantage they will give 30 days notice and the account can be switched/closed at any time during a 60 day period without incurring any extra charges or interest.

So does the T&C. document trump the key features promise?
