When I am driving out HR-V my wife uses her iphone to check messages etc.  This cuts out the radio in the car!
Is there a way to prevent this happening?

Unpair it from the car, or turn bluetooth off on the phone. It's taking control of the head unit via the bluetooth connection.

There may be something in the phone's bluetooth settings, but there may not.

Thanks but we still want to answer the phone using the car bluetooth. Just don't want it to cut the radio at other times.

From our experience with our Ford it's all or nothing, once the Bluetooth is connected it overrules everything else - so checking messages/going to google etc etc can interrupt the radio - so I mainly don't connect to the car until I specifically need to use the car

The phone controls the connection, not the car.

    It's sending a "mute" signal.

If she wants to check her messages etc, she can turn bluetooth off on the phone, then turn it back on later.

This is normal, and because the phone is sending all audio output to the connected bluetooth device - the car stereo. When the car stereo receives any audio (it doesn't know what it is, just that its audio) it will mute the radio and play the phone audio.

The way to work round it would be to create a custom "focus" which mutes/disables all notifications except incoming phone calls. Or, if she doesn't want phone calls while driving or connected to the car stereo, use the built-in "driving" focus on the iPhone.
