  • Do you shop at one of the main supermarkets for your groceries?

If so try the budget ones Lidl and Aldi ( get the Lidl app and you get freebies )

Also have you got shops like Farmfoods and Heron? they can have bargains.
No. Only ever Lidl and Aldi. I’m too tight for the others unless it’s something specific 🤣

If you've got a main line supermarket near you, it's worth checking out their yellow stickered veggies and fridges if you are close (not making a specific journey by car). I've also picked up some good deals for the local foodbank on their reduced shelves.

I tend to avoid food from the middle aisles even if they are deals, as often you can get a budget range at a main supermarket for less or even on the same stores' main shelves. Although I've had some ridiculous bargains when they discount, like tinned beans as low as 9p a tin last year.

I never use the food bank type places that advertise on FB etc, as I always think there are people worse off that need it more, but I’m going to check it out! If I could get staples from somewhere like that I bet I’d save a packet!  Citizens Advice asked me the other day when I was asking a UC question if I need vouchers. I obviously said no, but he said to spread the word and come to them if I ever need some. He was fab 👏🏻

Can I ask a question about the iPhone insurance? That is £10.99 a month accident and loss. Someone suggested using my contents insurance. I’ve just checked out my policy. I have £1000 cover already for items away from home including phones. If I upped this to £2k cover, I can get that for £2.47 extra a month. Or I can keep it at £1k as I wouldn’t replace my iPhone 15 plus with a top of the range anyway. My excess is £100.

If I use this instead of the £10.99 Apple insurance, are there any downsides? Or is it just a straight £10.99 saving?! I’ve never claimed in my buildings or contents insurance hence the question.

This might be one for the Insurance forum here. If you can tell them your provider and the title of the insurance, there's decent chance there's a broker or similar there who understand it in detail.

Do you have any Olio volunteers near you? Olio’s primary aim is to avoid food near its use by or best before date going to landfill. It’s a free app that anyone can use ( tho you do need a smartphone)

The risk of claiming on your home insurance, instead of a separate product for your phone, is your premium goes up at renewal.

To be honest, mobile phone insurance is an utter waste of money in my book, they have so many stipulations/excesses and "get out clauses" before they will pay out, and most won`t pay the actual value of the handset, you only get a % of its worth as a second hand product.

You would be better served putting that £10.99 into a savings account instead.

That is another option, self insure. Once you've got enough to buy another phone, use the money to pay off debt.
