She would likely be able to take her NHS pension . If Pension is under £85 a week which it seems like it likely would be if she has not been with the NHS very long, then this would not affect New style ESA. She may be able to opt for a bigger NHS lump sum also.wehey said:
Yes she is actually…Silvertabby said:Is your partner a member of the NHS pension scheme? If yes, would ill health retirement be a possibility?
she has only been employed with the NHS for 8 years in a basic minimal wage role, so although she is most likely eligible, I don’t know if the payments would be enough to keep us afloat.
will definitely look into it though, and thanks for the heads up 👍1 -
Depending on the tier of ill health (if) awarded, the pension may be enhanced, and so could be a fair bit more than you think.wehey said:

So have you decided to investigate the ill health retirement option?0

I would suggest that she checks if she would meet the national insurance contribution conditions to claim New Style Employment and Support Allowance. There is information on the contribution conditions on the Citizens Advice website at https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/benefits/sick-or-disabled-people-and-carers/employment-and-support-allowance/

If still employed, SSP would need to have been exhausted before New Style ESA applies.rosewalk said:I would suggest that she checks if she would meet the national insurance contribution conditions to claim New Style Employment and Support Allowance.
