Kim is not in a minority, this website is called Money SAVING Expert and we do try and save people money, but some people have no conception of how to save money and are trapped in the spending money habit.

You don't have to waste money on things like presents, it doesn't make you appear brilliant to spend ( waste ) money.
That’s fine but you also need to live life and if I want to buy my sister a car seat or my nephew a toy or pyjamas or whatever it is and I have budgeted and can afford it then why shouldn’t I?

It’s “money saving”, not “money hoarding and never using”.

Even Martin Lewis acknowledges people spend money on luxuries.

I’m not trying to appear brilliant. What an odd take.
The average poster on this forum will typically be servicing 40/50k plus of unsecured credit card and loan debt, probably accumulated over a long period, where they have lived beyond their means on credit for quite some time, and just don`t earn enough to clear it, probably will have tried more than once to consolidate it, and failed, and is now worried they are going to lose their home.

Your debt is quite small in comparison, and is of no real cause for concern, you have plenty of disposable income, which of course you can do with as you please.

Some of the advice being given is not really appropriate for your situation, but they are vital first steps for our usual clientele, most of whom will be in a far worse position.

Those who contribute their time to this forum are used to dealing with much worse debt scenarios, where having a workable, affordable budget is paramount, and of course we always advise keeping non essential spending under control, so they can achieve that.

That’s fine but isn’t the point of a forum to get advice based on your situation, rather than what is usually the case…?

Yes it is, and from what you have posted, your situation looks to be solid.

I'm sorry you've found some of our comments unhelpful. I was asking you questions to help you think about why you'd use credit and get into debt when it stops you sleeping and make you worry about how to afford the life you want and children. If you want to have sleep and mental peace then you do need to make choices that help you avoid the worries.

Deciding to have no debt isn't a bad idea, it's perfectly fine. You can get the debt cleared and switch to saving for things first rather than borrowing for them. The peace of mind that brings is massive.

You are right that you can't do everything at once that you might like too do, so where we say things like "why not spend less on gifts" we are suggesting a mindset they might help you get the mental peace fastest.

Good luck in whatever you decide to do.
