Another Simple Delivery question

SidJ

My items are usually post-free so I print and pay for the label and stick it to the parcel. What happens if I just post it from a normal postbox? To my mind this is no different to sticking stamps on a parcel and using a postbox. It wouldn't be tracked but most items I sold prior to SD went untracked. It's rarely been an issue. Maybe I'm missing something but in terms of delivery, feedback and payment what are the downsides? Anything valuable would be tracked as before. Thank you

1. You wouldn't have a receipt from the post office to prove you posted the item. If it got lost then it would be harder to prove when you are making your claim for lost parcels. Secondly if you have mi-calculated the postal charge then the receiver would have to pay the difference before they could collect the parcel.3

I regularly buy postage online or use simple delivery and post in a post box. If its tracked then it won't track till it gets to a sorting office. As above you aren't covered if its not delivered. I even had one that was tracked to the customers local sorting office and was lost. Royal Mail refused the claim because I had no proof it was posted despite it being scanned at various places in their network.
I would check your local Collect Plus collection point like a newsagent. Most of them take post now and give you a printed receipt as proof of postage.0 -

Thank youIf the item is simple delivery then eBay will send you a pre paid label which you will be charged for and which is properly tracked. As long as it is scanned when Rm get it after collection you are fully covered whether it shows delivered or not.I find most of my SD items go via Evri so if you can’t use Evri then remember to remove the option from your SD options. Personally I leave it enabled as it a very reasonably priced option and I’ve sold absolutely loads of parcel size things that I’d had listed for ages previously.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
