Single occupancy question

Here is a scenario.
Two people have booked a cruise, they have paid for their holiday in full but shortly before they go, one of them suffers a death in their family.
The funeral could take place during the holiday, if so the person will not go and claim on their holiday insurance.
This will leave the other person to holiday on their own.
Would that person now have to pay a single occupancy supplement?
I would say no as the cruise company will not be out of
pocket but the person is concerned as they would struggle if they had to pay
the supplement.
As this scenario hasn't played out yet they are having trouble finding out, so I thought I’d ask on
here.
Can anyone help?

I think they'd have to check the T&Cs of their booking, or ask the particular cruise comany concerned, I don;t believe there will be a 'one size fits all' answer.0

Is the rate for single occupancy bring the cost to more than paying for a double cabin ?
This may be a question for cruise critic forums where you are more likely to find someone who's been in the position.
Or search some questions naming the cruise line
As said, it will be specific to the company, cruise and t and c.I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

The only normal people you know are the ones you don’t know very well

No, it makes zero sense. If the cruise company have had payments from 2 people why would they charge additional? The point of so called "single occupancy" supplements is because one person is taking up the space usually occupied by 2 so clearly one person occupying space usually occupied by 2 is going to be more expensive per person. But as they've already been paid for 2 people, there's no excuse to charge more.1

If the person no longer travelling, is not making a claim for money back from a travel insurer or tour operator then there should be no issue and no extra money to pay for any under occupancy supplement. The cabin is booked for two, the cruise line paid for two - one person is just not travelling.
The issue may however arise with single occupancy and recosting of the holiday if the person no longer travelling seeks a cancellation invoice from the operator as they wish to make an insurance claim.1 -
Insurance may ask for proof of cancellation from cruise company.0

An update for anyone interested.
As expected no single occupancy was charged.
It's too early to know how the person who went to the funeral got on with their insurance company and it wouldn't be right to discuss their situation without their permission.
So case solved, thanks to everyone for your input.0
