British Gas...they read the wrong meter and harrass me non-stop with debt collectors

A couple of years ago now I changed energy suppliers, gave my final meter readings etc to British Gas and they took absolutely no notice whatsoever and billed me the meter reading of the flat next door (which was a fair bit higher than mine surprise surprise)
I wrote to them and emailed them but they ignored me entirely and decided to send a long list of debt collection agencies chasing after me.
Eventually I had the meter reading people over to check that my meter was indeed mine and told the debt collection agency that was hounding me at the time that the bill was not for my meter, and so I would not be paying it.
I also showed them my final meter reading and said I would be more than happy to pay MY bill. They told me the bill should be cancelled as it was not for my meter and therefore wasn't my debt.
I wrote to British Gas AGAIN, because I'm some sort of sadist that gains pleasure from dealing with !!!!!!. Again I gave them my final meter reading and told them the meter reading people had confirmed that my meter was mine but I'd like to pay my bill. Shockingly, no reply!
Anyway, I've now moved house and British Gas and yet another debt collection agency are once again sending me demands with menace.
Is it time to get on to EnergyWatch? I could really happily murder someone at British Gas and can't see this being resolved through customer service.
Any thoughts?

Watchdog have recently shown a situation very similar to yours. I would certainly contact EnergyWatch as BG seem unable to deal with the situation.

    Good luck

After switching suppliers the new suppliers should have raised a dispute with BG after their investigations were concluded. This way it comes from a company who will have flows from the meter operators if a site visit has been done. Because BG do not now supply they have no access to these results. Get them to raise a dispute with BG on the reads and backed up with the correct meter details. This should then get results.
