to me it gives the perception that they are taking me for a fool and just coming up with random prices. A lot of the items ive seen in asda are more expensive then  other supermarkets like tesco lidl and aldi
Why are they taking you for a fool? if you’re struggling to add things are pretty go around, then take a calculator.
If items are more expensive in Asda than other shops, then just go somewhere else.
They are businesses. They are there to make money, ideally whilst  still keeping their customers semi happy. How they choose to do that is up to them and it’s up to you whether you choose to shop with them or not.

Id rather go to a supermarket where i don't need  to take a calculator with me . To be honest i very rarely shop at asda these days  as i feel they are  expensive. Its only recently that I've been in a few times and noticed this new way of pricing. It is not encouraging me  to  return as i cant easily keep track of  what I'm spending as i go round the shop. I think they were just choosing random numbers as a lot of items in general seemed to be ridiculously expensive. Also  the store didnt really look as busy as it was previously a few years ago but maybe thats just me.

Use the calculator on your phone?  Even feature (ie non-smart) phones have calculators.  Or perhaps you travel extra light without one.

If you can add up when the prices end in 49p or 99p then can you not add up in quarter or halves of pounds (eg, half for a 47p price), adjusting downwards when you think you might have had sufficient of those prices to make a difference?

I agree that Asda is no longer inexpensive, whatever they say about Rollback prices.
