Fraud on an MBNA credit card - a (mostly) good experience

A couple of weeks ago, I logged on to my MBNA account and immediately saw that there was something wrong - the total owed was about £1,200 when it should have been about £50. A closer look revealed three fraudulent transactions a week earlier - two debits and (very strangely) a £50 credit. There was no way that these could be anything to do with me. The companies involved were NatWest (with whom I haven't had any business for several years) and booking.com (with whom I've never done business).
I immediately froze the card in the phone app and phoned MBNA. The only bad part of my overall experience was that that phone call was very long: over an hour, mostly on hold. When I did get through to the fraud department, the fellow I spoke to was very pleasant and helpful.
By Wednesday, the two naughty debits had been reversed, but not the £50 credit. I was now £50 better off than I should be. I guess that I probably could have said nothing and kept that £50, but that didn't sit right with me. I phoned MBNA again and drew their attention to it. After another couple of days, that one was also reversed. All was now as it should be.
My card was cancelled while I was on the phone. That
was Monday evening. A new card arrived in the post on Thursday, which I
thought was pretty quick.
Overall, this was a much better experience than I had with Halifax when I found a series of fraudulent transactions on a card that they'd issued. That was about twenty years ago, in the days of HBOS before it got taken over by Lloyds. That one ended up as a complaint because they handled it so badly.

Had the same on my Lloyds card.....used it for a money transfer 14 months ago then locked it in safe and never used it again.....went online to pay monthly payment last week and noticed 4 Amazon transactions I hadn't made totalling about £65 but also including one £15 debit then 6 days later credited back......can't fault Lloyds either, similar experience to yours.....immediately credited back and new card in 4 days....just wonder how they get the details of your card when you never used it and how do Amazon allow them to use a card not registered to their address. If God didn't want us to eat animals, why did he make them out of meat.:beer:1

Quite. I'd like to know that, too - just in case there's something I can do to stop it from happening again. But there's no chance of the bank telling us.0 -
